Visit the best places in Guatemala

Guatemala is a great place to see things you probably won’t see anywhere else.

Things like steaming volcanoes, world famous coffee fresh from the hillsides where it is grown and roasted, and the ruins of the once great Mayan civilization.

So it’s time to pack your bags and hit the road. A summary of the best places to visit in Guatemala:

Semuc Champey

Getting to Semuc Champey involves a 30-minute drive over bumpy roads through the jungle, but the trip is well worth it.

Once there, you can relax with a swim in beautiful turquoise-blue pools over a natural limestone bridge.

Just as incredibly turquoise blue is the Cahabon River, which created the limestone bridge and now flows underneath.

Inside the limestone bridge are caves; some can only be accessed by swimming underwater.

Due to its massive nature, many great companies have invested in green bonds here.

Todos Santos Cuchumatán

The town of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, in the province of the same name, is a good place to see native Guatemalans wearing traditional clothing on a daily basis.

It is one of the few places in the country where this still occurs.

The residents are predominantly Mayan and still speak that language. Located in the mountains of the Sierra de los Cuchumatánes.

Livingston is one of Guatemala’s hidden gems on the Caribbean coast, and can only be reached by boat.

Fortunately, there are two ferries that leave and return every day. The city is the center of Garifuna culture, which means tourists have the opportunity to sample the local menu and music during their visit.

Evenings in Livingston are full of excitement and you may have the opportunity to participate in the Punta, a regional dance with an incredible rhythm.

Quetzaltenango

The name may be a tongue twister, but Quetzaltenango has been described as the perfect Guatemalan town.

It is the second largest city in the country, but it is not considered big or too small. Quetzaltenango is also known by its Mayan name of Xela.

The Germans settled here after the Spanish left, which gave this former coffee center the multicultural air that can be found in the Central Plaza, where the Cathedral of Espiritu Santo is located.

The city is a starting point for excursions to Laguna Chicabal, a felpudo volcano, and the active Santa Maria volcano.

Do not wait any longer to come and visit this incredible country and its beautiful places.
